Light. Water. Sound Vessels

Advisor: Nati Shamia Opher

“It is the empty space that gives the function of a vessel.”

– Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Reflections on material and its ability to be present or absent in the space sparked the idea for project. Is material tangible? Can light and sound be considered materials?

The design thought about the pouring vessels is embodied in the essence and not the function. The aesthetic dimension occurs when light enters the vessel, built so that light is absorbed and emerges from the porcelain, and the essence is revealed and transmitted to the user. The act of pouring water summons a new light experience and a resonance experience that varies between the different containers.
