Randomness. Today’s industrial serial production does not leave much room for randomness. Each item is weighed, measured, molded, injected, packaged, and shipped according to a clear and predictable blueprint. Volu uses polyurethane foam, a synthetic material that behaves and spreads like a living organism. The project examines the relationship between the controlled and the radical, and looks at the possibility embodied in the serial production of objects made of the same materials and in the same technique, yet different from each other.
