Do not touch

My final project is a conversion of images of locks to kiln cast glass.  The material and technique allow me to expose the complexity of the mechanism and its aesthetic qualities. At the same time, a space of conceptual connections is created.

The design and technology of locking mechanisms has evolved over time, but formal changes are by necessity limited. The lock will always be covered by a sealed envelope of materials, usually metal. This makes the lock both harder to pick and more difficult to understand in operation. I want to expose this everyday object and show its sculptural potential.
